There’s something undeniably special about choosing to step away from the expected and celebrate somewhere that feels like an escape. As South Florida wedding photographers, we’ve had the honor of documenting so many beautiful celebrations, but there’s a certain magic that surrounds a destination wedding in the Keys. The pace slows down. The guest list becomes intentional. The moments feel unhurried and deeply personal. Alyson and Liam’s intimate wedding at Islander Resort in Islamorada embodied all of that and more.
They traveled from Delaware with just 18 of their closest friends and family members. Their day was relaxed, tropical, and effortlessly beautiful. It was a true reflection of who they are as a couple!

Alyson and Liam are the kind of couple you instantly feel comfortable around. They love motorcycle rides, spending time with their fur babies (who were sweetly featured on their cocktail napkins), and building a life that feels authentic to them. Alyson, a talented tattoo artist, brings an artistic edge to everything she touches. Together they have this creative, grounded energy.
One of the most emotional parts of the day was their private first look. Before the ceremony began, they chose to read their vows to one another in complete privacy. It was so tender and heartfelt. There were tears, quiet laughter, and the kind of eye contact that shows they’re true soulmates.

There’s a reason so many couples are drawn to a destination wedding in the Keys. Islamorada offers tropical beach destination wedding vibes without feeling overwhelming or overdone. The ocean breeze, swaying palms, and endless horizon naturally create a sense of calm that allows couples to truly be present.
With smaller guest counts, like Alyson and Liam’s 18-person celebration, every guest feels intentionally chosen. The timeline feels more flexible and the energy is always special.
As photographers, we love intimate weddings in the Keys because:
It’s less about production and more about presence, and that always translates beautifully in photographs.
Alyson and Liam’s ceremony took place right on the sand at Islander Resort, with the ocean stretching endlessly behind them. Guests kicked off their shoes and joined them barefoot, fully embracing the laid-back island energy.
They each got ready separately with their closest people before making their way to the beach. In a detail I absolutely loved, both Alyson and Liam showed off their fun sneakers for the reception — a playful, personal touch — after going barefoot for the ceremony itself.
Alyson’s bridesmaid wore a stunning green satin gown, while Liam’s groomsman wore a light green suit that perfectly complemented the tropical setting. The color palette felt organic and effortless against the blues of the ocean and the neutral sand.
After exchanging vows, they celebrated with a round of shots alongside all of their guests before sealing them with the sweetest kiss. It was a joyful, spontaneous moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

The reception continued outdoors in a charming courtyard shaded by palm trees and glowing with string lights. Their sweetheart table was surrounded by intimate guest tables.
Guests signed the guest book in one of the most creative ways I’ve seen: dipping their fingertips into different colored inks and pressing them onto a drawing of a tree. It was artistic, interactive, and perfectly fitting for their creative spirits.
For the reception, Liam changed into a green collared shirt. It was relaxed, polished, and perfect for celebrating. As the sun began to dip, we stepped away for sunset portraits on the dock. The sky turned soft shades of gold and pink. It was the kind of Florida Keys sunset you can’t plan but always hope for.
Dessert featured chocolate tarts, cupcakes, and a small wedding cake adorned with delicate icing florals. As night fell, guests danced beneath the string light with the ocean breeze. It was joyful, intimate, and perfectly them.

“Working with Michelle and Pete was a dream from just the initial contact! They are extremely kind, thorough and especially transparent when it comes to cost!
We were a destination wedding and they were always on top of communication, helping us with everything photo. There was never a time we thought we couldn’t reach out to have a conversation even if it was a silly follow up! My spouse and I are both not super picture people, Michelle & Pete helped us feel comfortable all day for our wedding.
We recommend if you have a small guest list & party, make time for individual couple & family pictures because if you give Michelle a list she will make it happen!!!
The both of us were beyond shocked and felt cared for even months after our wedding, they sent us a little gift with our photos on a flash drive – that extra mile means a lot to us.
We both have already decided IF we have children we will take the time to fly to Florida for our maternity shoot, no questions asked!” — Alyson & Liam
