Engagement sessions are honestly one of my favorite parts of working with couples! There is something about having time together before the wedding day that changes everything, in a good way. Having an engagement session before your wedding takes away pressure, builds comfort, and it usually leads to wedding photos that feel a lot more natural because nothing feels new anymore.
As a South Florida wedding photographer, I always encourage couples to treat their engagement session as more than just photos. It is practice, but it is also an experience together. Natalia and Alberto are getting married later this year and booked our 8 hour photo and video package, which includes a complimentary engagement session with Michelle. We photographed their session at Matheson Hammock Park in Miami, and it was perfect for the two of them!

Engagement sessions do a lot more than give you pretty photos for save the dates. They help you meet your photographer in person before the wedding day. That alone makes a huge difference! You get to see how we work, how we guide you, and how natural it can feel once you relax into it.
Most couples also realize quickly that they do not need to “know what to do” in front of the camera. That’s our job! The engagement session is where that starts to feel real, so by the time the wedding day arrives, everything feels easier and more familiar.
For our couples, engagement sessions are included in our 8 and 10 hour photo and video packages. They can also be added onto any other wedding package for $400 (normally $600).

Natalia and Alberto’s session at Matheson Hammock Park took place on a rainy day in Miami. It rained pretty much the entire time, but they showed up with the best energy anyway! Natalia wore a white dress and fully embraced the fact that it might get wet or dirty. Alberto was right there with her, ready to make it fun. They even rented a vintage car for the session, which was such a cool touch.

This engagement session is a good reminder that engagement photos are not about perfect conditions. The rain was moody and softened the light. The wind picked up throughout the session, and at times the umbrella would flip inside out, which honestly just made everyone laugh and keep going.
At one point near the end, it started pouring even harder. Instead of packing up, Natalia and Alberto ran along the beach as the sun was setting behind the storm. I loved it!

Matheson Hammock Park is one of my favorite locations for Miami engagement photos. It has open water, beach space, greenery, and even distant skyline views of Miami all in one place. It’s such a versatile spot! If you’re looking for more location ideas, I also shared some of my favorite spots in my guide to the best Miami engagement photo locations.
On this day, the rain completely changed the vibe, but the park was still stunning. It’s a spot that works just as well for calm, golden sunset sessions as it does for something a little more unpredictable.

“Thank you again for the best time and also making us feel so comfortable. I had a blast and these pictures look better than I could have imagined.” — Natalia

Engagement sessions are one of the best ways to slow down and enjoy this season of life before the wedding day gets here. They give you space to connect, get comfortable, and just be yourselves without pressure.
